In case you love sewing or embroidery, you must be aware of Brother: the brand that is known for high-quality and durable sewing machines, sergers, and embroidery machines.
This embroidery machine by Brother is one of its kind and you can see that on its Amazon listing where it has got hundreds of positive reviews and an Amazon’s Choice tag.
Brother PE800 is the latest version of what Brother PE770 offered to the masses that love embroidery. Not only it is a very durable and high-quality embroidery machine, but in terms of ease of use, style and functionality too this machine easily beats most of its contenders.
Brother PE800 Detailed Review
However, like every other product (including consumer electronics), this brother sewing machine has its own flaws. This is a review of all of the positive and negative qualities of Brother PE800.
Modern day sewing and embroidery machines are all about the long list of options that they offer to their users. Same is the case with Brother PE800 – it is full of very useful features and options.
Let us take a detailed look at the main features of Brother PE800.
138 Built-in Designs
When it comes to embroidery machines, the number of available designs is one of the biggest factors that lead a customer towards buying or ditching the machine. While this machine does not have as many embroidery designs as industry-leading Singer machines offer (around 200), it is still the second-best machine with 138 diverse designs. Compare it with other sewing machines with maximum of 100+ built-in designs and you’d admit that Brother did a far better job.
11 Built-in Fonts
For those of you who love to embroider names and letters of their loved on a piece of cloth, this machine has 11 build-in fonts. There are 7 English fonts, 3 Japanese fonts and 1 Cyrillic font style. These make this machine a perfect gift for those who love embroidering monograms and letters.
USP Port to Import Designs
The best thing that sets this machine apart from most of the embroidery machines available for sale on Amazon or in the market, is the USB design transfer functionality. Using the USB port on this machine, you can import as many embroidery designs as you want. This means you’re NOT limited to the 138 built-in designs.
Large Colored Display
Brother PE800 has a big, colored and backlit display. You can see the design that your machine will embroider on the cloth on this screen and make whatever changes you might need before you apply the design. The preview mode avails you sort of WYSIWYG functionality because the design on the cloth would be the same as you’d see on the screen.
5” x 7” Embroidery Field – Since PE800 is an embroider only machine and not yet another sewing machine with embroidery functionality, you get an embroidery foot with a wide area to apply embroidery – 5” to 7”. Because of this big hoop, you can easily apply big designs.
Built-in LED Light – Like most of the modern-day embroidery and sewing machines, Brother’s PE800 also has an LED light that can be found right on top of the workspace. This light keeps your workspace well-let. This is a good feature especially in cases where you use a dark fabric.
Automatic Needle Threader – A very basic feature when it comes to latest technology sewing and embroidery machines, but nonetheless a very important facility. With a swift move, you easily thread the needle without having to focusing your eyes a lot.
Accessories – This embroidery machine comes with almost all needed accessories and hopefully you would not have to buy anything separately. Apart from the embroidery hoop and foot, you get 4 bobbins, 1 needle set, 3 screw drivers (disc shaped, large and small), 4 spool caps (mini, small, medium and large), cleaning brush, seam ripper, bobbin cover, dust cover and user’s manual.
- 138 Built-in Designs
- 850 Stitches/minute
- USB Design Import Function
- Large WYSIWYG Display
- No Storage Space in Machine
- Needles Break
Before we move on to the FAQs section, here’s a little detail about the cons (since pros have already been explained).
You know that many embroidery and sewing machines have these storage boxes made into the frame where you can store your needles, bobbins and other stuff.
Unfortunately, this is not the case with this machine. It does not have a storage space; it would be great if it had one.
The other problem, mentioned by a few customers, is that needles break easily even on light fabric. While this might be true, majority of positive reviews show that this is more likely an issue with a few units.

FAQs on Brother PE800 Embroidery Machine
Here are frequently asked questions and their answers.
What are the key differences between PE800 and PE770?
More or less, both versions are very similar to each other. However, there are a few important differences. First of all, PE770 was discontinued after launch of PE800. Secondly, new one has a colored display, while old one was not. PE800’s speed, as mentioned, is 850 stitches/minute, while PE770’s speed was 650 stitches/minute. Former has 138 built-in stitches, while latter had 136. This one has 11 fonts, while that one had only 6.
Can you sew with Brother PE800?
No. Just like its predecessor, this machine is also only for embroidery. While those who love two-in-one functionality (sewing + embroidering) should not buy this machine, those who love embroidery should definitely go for this machine.
What software do we need for the designs?
Brother has its own proprietary software: PE-Design. You will need it to import file formats and convert them into ‘printable’ designs.
Can I connect a computer with this machine?
In case your laptop or computer can be synced with PE-Design, you can use it to embroider designs right out of your computer.
Is this machine good enough for bigger projects?
Since this is an embroidery only machine – kind of specialised machine for embroidery – you can use it for small to big projects like big t-shirts, bedding, tablecloths and wall decoration etc.
In my personal opinion, apart from a few shortcomings, Brother PE800 is a very high-quality embroidery-specific machine with many useful features. It is a good thing that it comes with all needed accessories. The Grand Slam Package just makes it even better for those who are bent on more features and accessories. The major aspect where they need to pay attention is to compete with and beat their major competitor: Singer. As we know Singer’s embroidery machines with bigger number of built-in designs and same/similar feature, pose a serious threat to Brother.
