juki long arm machine
In this section, I will provide an in-depth review of this product. The review will be based on features, pros and cons etc. After reading this review, you should be able to compare this quilting machine with other high-quality ones – and make a sane choice.
Features:
Multipurpose Machine –
First of all it is important to know that this is a multi-purpose machine. Not only you can use it on a wide variety of materials, but also it can be used in so many different ways. Not only you can use it for quilting (its main purpose), but you can also use it for simple stitching, tailoring, apparel and home décor sewing etc.
Complete Setup –
So, what you get with this package is not just the sewing machine, but it is a whole setup. You get Juki TL-2010Q sewing machine and Juki’s proprietary Grace Continuum Quilting Frame. Let us talk about the machine first. This machine provides an amazing speed of 1500 stitches/minute. It is a mechanically controlled machine so you enjoy better control on it. This machine has a clean, white and minimalist profile. With a simple to use dial, you can change the settings as per your requirements. The rabbit and turtle illustrations help you choose the stitching speed.
Because of long and permanent frame, this machine enables its users to perform longarm quilting. Speaking of the arm, let us talk about the Grace Continuum Frame that you get with this machine. Grace has been making high-quality quilting frames for roughly 30 years now. This is a modular quilting frame that allows you to adjust length and width of the workspace, and you can use it with any quilting machine – not just this Juki one. It is made of stainless steel and cast iron; these materials make it one of the sturdier and most durable quilting frames that you can find in the market. Since it is a modular frame, you can configure it the way you want.
Accessories Included –
Apart from the modular quilting frame that you get with the machine, there are other accessories that are included in the package. This means that unless for your advanced needs, you would not need to buy anything from the market. I would discuss more important accessories separately, but there are others that must be mentioned here. For example, you get a pack of 100 top of the link Organ brand’s needles. These are universal sewing machine needles that you can use with any machine. Other than these, you’d get 20 free metal “L” bobbins. The best thing about these relatively small bobbins is that they can fit in many machines including Class 15 ones.
SureStitch –
Now these are the VIP accessories that you enjoy when you purchase this package. What is SureStitch? Made by the same company, Grace SureStitch is a system – a stitch regulator that does two things at the same time. It provides a constant stitching speed control and it allows you to regulate the stitch while you sew. With digital speed display and pulse button, this stitch regulator makes quilting smoother and easier for you.
Equipped with QuiltCAD Software –
When it comes to quilting, whether it is your hobby or your profession, you know that a lot of photographs, patterns, blocks and border printing etc. goes on because people let their aesthetic sense go wild. QuiltCAD is a software made by Cabin Logic. Not only this software has a library of over 200 patterns that you can try on your quilts, but it allows you to customize the whole design thing because you can create/use your own designs and photographs.
Pattern Perfect Plastic Stylus –
This item is also made by Grace. Grace Pattern Perfect Plastic Stylus is a die cut pattern stylus that you will attach to your carriage and your machine will smoothly move through the pattern – making the same pattern on the cloth underneath the stylus. What you get is a set of double-sided pattern styluses with either patterns each. This is a complete package with hardware, set and pattern so you won’t have to buy anything from anywhere else. The easy-to-follow panels have grooves with decent distance that allow your machine to smoothly sew the chosen pattern. However, in case you want more patterns, you can buy them from grace.
Pros
- Multipurpose
- Complete Setup
- QuiltCAD Software
- SureStitch
Cons
- Poor Quality LED Light
- High Maintenance
- Now, I get it that I’ve already explained the pros in the features section, but I’d definitely have to explain the cons.
The first problem is a poor-quality LED light. You know that sewing machines, at least high-quality ones, have LED light in the workspace area so as to enlighten the workspace area and reduce any possible strain or pressure on one’s eyes. This one also has an LED light in that area, but unfortunately the light is pretty dim and those of you who are into quilting know how much attention seeking this job can be from time to time. You cannot continue with quilting while you have a dim LED light right on top of your workspace.
The second problem is about maintenance. I know that in terms of pricing too, this product is definitely not among the most affordable ones, but I think maintenance is much bigger an issue. First of all, this machine depends on many complex mechanical parts which means it needs more frequent sewing oiling. Secondly, other than the machine itself, the whole setup relies on many complex tools – for example SureStitch. If you end up damaging any of those parts, you’d need to get them repaired and until then you would not be able to use the machine as per its full potential.
FAQs on Juki TL-2010Q
Here are the most frequently asked questions about this product and answers to those questions.
What are the dimensions?
The dimensions of this machine is 25.7” x 18” x 14”. The Grace Continuum frame that you get is 108” long, but since it is a modular setup, you can not only manipulate the tension (of the fabric), but size is also subjective to your personal setting.
How to Use the Software?
You would get the software in form of a CD, but you would definitely need a computer and printer to print out the designs. Once you have all these required items, you can print any design/pattern on your quilt.
Does this machine come with stylus and handles?
This is supposed to come with the handles that you see on front and the stylus. However, there might be a problem with shipping – in that case let them know that they missed sending these crucial parts and they will definitely will do accordingly.
